The Project

Future's Present is part of Derry City Council's Arts and Regeneration project which is funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland National Lottery Fund.

The Arts and Regeneration project has been established to strengthen community involvement in regeneration issues. The project is coordinated by Alice McCartney, Arts and Regeneration Officer in Derry City Council.

Artist's Statement

"My collaborative work has always played an essential role as part of my overall practice. I have achieved this by investing time to create awareness and development of an artistic language for others within gallery, school and community settings. From my own perspective working collaboratively helps to create my knowledge and understanding of society in a wider context. It is from this position that my creative outcomes take on a humanistic approach."

"Universality as a driving force transfers well when I am working in the public art sector. For me the challenge lies in creating work with the Arts and Regeneration programme that not only communicates to the local viewer and represents a community (which is achieved by establishing a deep routed understanding of the environment) but also drives a sense of relevance to a broader audience."
